King Apathy / Thränenkind [DE]

THRÄNENKIND came to be in 2007 near Munich in the south of Germany. The band name could be translated as "child of tears" or "child that causes tears" and was chosen as contrast to the "grim" and cliché names in black metal. The name links the open-minded and savage nature of children with the depressing artificial realities of modern human society. The members of Thränenkind share interests in the ideas of anarchism, veganism and the critique of capitalism and industrial civilization. Some of them are straight edge. Their lyrics broach the issues of the relationship between humanity and nature, interpersonal relations, human society, anarchism and the endless longing for freedom.
Having released a demo (2008) and a split-CD with Heretoir, „The Elk“ 2xLP/CD, a 7inch and the latest record „King Apathy“ LP/CD. The earlier recordings had more (post) black metal and shoegaze influences, while their newer stuff contains touches of crust and hardcore punk and sometimes formidable instrumental post rock songs with a melancholic yet beautiful atmosphere, too. Some of the songs are slow and profound. Others are fast and unfold the ruthless power of (post) black metal. Just like Profane Existence Magazine wrote: “THRÄNENKIND is all about atmosphere, not blazing speed or brutality. They remind me a bit of WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM without the black metal, but have a lot in common with Celestiial, a “woodland doom” band from the Mid-Western U.S.” “The Elk” is a concept album telling the story of two siblings, who are on a roadtrip to their father’s funeral. They are faced with meeting old friends and memories, tragedy, hope, death and a mysterious "stranger". The focus of interest: pure emotion and intense impressions. The heart takes control...
The band is raising a claim with awareness, respect and a diversity of sounds and words. All of this is the expression of the differentiated approach of the group. On the band’s second album “King Apathy” – you can hear and feel what this means. The range of influences is wide – so are the feelings that have been transferred into fiery, impressive music. Following the path of “The Elk” (2013), THRÄNENKIND move freely in between crustcore, post rock, post black metal, and hardcore punk without putting obvious priorities or rather core areas. The focus – still – lies on creating atmosphere and melancholy as well as lasting impressions
